Biographical / Historical
In 1922, Justus Rising, a Purdue Engineering Drawing professor, saw several instructional films made by the US Department of Agriculture about the mechanics of automobiles. These films inspired Rising to research motion pictures as a new medium for instruction and education. Starting in 1926, Rising pioneered the use of motion pictures to teach engineering, drawing and graphic design. Throughout his career, Rising created several engineering drawing films that were used at Purdue and other universities.
