Historical Information
The Purdue Village, originally called Married Student Housing, was constructed in 1958 and consisted of apartments, an administrative building, and a preschool. The apartments were built to replace temporary barracks erected after World War II to accommodate the influx of married students on campus. The apartments could be rented by families or single graduate students. A preschool was added for residents of Married Student Housing the same year. It started operatons as a parent cooperative, Nimitz Drive Co-Operative Nursery School. The cooperative later hired full-time staff and operated as an independent organization. At some point in 1990s, the preschool was absorbed into operations of Purdue Village as part of residential life functions. It was a preschool for the children of Purdue Village residents, Purdue students, Purdue faculty, and the general public. The Married Student buildings were renamed to Purdue Village in 1998. Purdue Village was demolished in 2022 and the area was redeveloped as part of the Discovery Park District.
