Biographical Information
Charles Beckman Murphy was born in Brookston, Indiana, to Charles Judson Murphy and Margaret Beckman Murphy. He attended Purdue University, graduating with a B.S. in 1926, earned an M.A. at the University of Chicago in 1927, and was a respected professor of history at Purdue from 1927 until his retirement in 1970. A popular instructor, the Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award at Purdue University is named in his honor. Murphy's wife, Margaret Nesbitt Murphy, was a professor of child development. Both were named Professors Emeriti after their retirement.
