Biographical Information

Charles John Bohrer graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1876, the only member of his graduating class and second ever graduate from the university. In 1878 he was granted a degree of Analytical Chemist. His thesis entitled “Beer and Its Physiological Effects” was the first thesis accepted by Purdue University. Bohrer later moved to Winthrop Beach, Massachusetts. He died February 20, 1918.

The Charles J. Bohrer thesis titled "Beer and Its Physiological Effects" was the capstone document of Bohrer’s undergraduate career and the first thesis submitted by a Purdue University student.  This forty page thesis is all hand written on one side of lined paper.  This thesis would be important to any researcher studying the history of Purdue University or any researcher studying the history of chemistry, brewing, or medicine in the late nineteenth century.
