Biographical Information

Leap was born in Huntington, West Virginia on October 19, 1937. He attended Marshall College which is now called Marshall University and graduated in 1960. He joined the Navy Reserve in 1960 and was in the Navy base in Newport, Rhode Island. Around October 1960 he was comissioned in as an ensign and flew to a ship in Athens, Greece. He did oceanographic surveying of the Persian Gulf. He was made a captain of a boat and surveyed thousands of miles. His research interests include hydrology. He was one of the early members of the American Institute of Hydrology. He retired with the title of professor emeritus of earth sciences at Purdue University.
